With the new regulations not allowing charcoal grills on my porch, I needed a replacement. After reading all the positive reviews I thought this would be it. It wasn’t until after I had used it that I noticed it was only 800 watts. Completely useless as a grill. If I start cooking now it may be ready by the next 4th of July. Forget about actual high heat searing. Used it once then tossed it in the trash as a total write off.

I’m not good a figuring dimensions in square inches, so didn’t have a feel for how large this was going to be. From the picture, I thought it would be for 2 small, filet mignon type steaks, and grilled vegetable to go with them. It is much larger than I imagined, so haven’t used it yet. I would return it for a smaller size, or one with a combo flat surface grill, if one was available.

I was so excited to get this as I wanted to make healthier food after a few health problems. It worked fine the first time I use it. Then the 2nd time onwards, it just refused to heat up! No matter how high I put the temp, the grill remain cool. There are no instructions on how to troubleshoot this and I’m lost at how I can get this fixed.

I bought this from Amazon US and I live in Singapore to exchange or return it is going to cost me more than what it cost in buying it. I’m so disappointed with Sanyo and this product.

I do NOT recommend anyway to waste their money on this product. Go buy something that can guarantee you meals for many years and not just one time.

I’ve had this grill for a couple months now and still haven’t gotten a piece of meat cooked to my satisfaction. The title of this review says it all: I’ve tried low temps, medium temps, high temps, thin cuts, thick cuts, and no matter what I do my steak comes out tough and charred outside and almost raw on the inside.

For some reason the heating element doesn’t radiate much beyond contact with whatever you’re cooking. I keep finding myself trapped between wanting the interior of the meat cooked beyond rare and ending up with the exterior of the meat overly charred.

Sanyo HPS-SG2 Indoor Barbeque Grill with 120-Square-Inch Nonstick Cooking Surface

Pros: Good size. Works pretty well. Cools down very quickly when temperature lowered or unit turned off. Relatively easy to clean. None of the parts that you touch get hot. Easy to use.

Cons: Temperature adjustment sucks. The temperature range from 250 to 450 is squeezed into a 3/4″ space on the knob. It’s impossible to be accurate. The base is plastic and there are no rubber feet, so it slides along the countertop like it’s on ice. It would be very easy to pull it off the counter just trying to remove the power cord. Can’t sit on the stovetop because it’s got four feet and it’s impossible to get it to sit level on the elements. Not completely smoke free (not a shock). Not barbecue flavor; just a grill (also not a shock). Because it doesn’t have a lid like a barbecue, it cooks only on direct heat (like a frying pan); so, it you’re cooking something thick (chicken breast or steak) it’s unlikely that the inside will be done at the same time that the outside is charred. You can turn the heat down once the outside gets charred but then it takes forever. It’s better for souvlaki or strip steaks.
